The Data Department is composed of the following teams: “Data Hub”, "Data Science", "BI & Reporting", "Data Governance".
The “Data Hub” team is in charge of building the new Datawarehouse for the Benelux.
The team is composed of 1 Product Owner, 1 Scrum Master, 2 analysts, 2 developers, 1 devops and 1 data architect.
Project
The overall project is to build new Datawarehouse for the Benelux.
This is done with an progressive approach, based on business use cases, like “IFRS9” (calculating the expected credit loss) or “First Unpaid” (calculating the probability to have customers 1 month late in their payment).
The project is at the beginning: 2 uses cases are implemented at the moment, and the ambition is to grow significantly in the coming years.
Function description
The Datahub is currently structured with the following layers:
The raw layer contains the extracts from operational systems.
The conformed layer consolidates the sources in a single data model.
The exposition layer exposes the data to the end users, via datamarts.
This structure could evolve in the future towards a Data Vault model.
The role of the analyst is the following:
For the raw layer, he analyzes which data extracts are needed from the operational systems to feed the raw layer.
For the conformed layer, he analyzes which data must be propagated to the conformed layer and how to calculate new data based on business rules. He also designs the data model of the conformed layer.
For the exposition layer, he designs the data model of datamarts (for example with Star Schema), to facilitate the consumption by the business (via Data Visualization tools).
The analyst defines the requirements (data models, data dictionary, data mappings) for the developers, and validate their developments.
